LaMonte McLemore, co-founder of the Grammy-winning soul-pop group The 5th Dimension, has died at age 90. He passed away Tuesday at his Las Vegas home from natural causes after suffering a stroke several years ago, according to Billboard<\/em>.<\/p>\n

McLemore, born Sept. 17, 1935, in St. Louis, was an American singer, photographer, and founding member of The 5th Dimension, helping shape the polished crossover sound of late-1960s and early-1970s pop and R&B.<\/p>\n

The group won two Grammys for Record of the Year with \u201cUp, Up and Away\u201d<\/em> and \u201cAquarius\/Let the Sunshine In,\u201d<\/em> both later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and earned seven gold albums and six platinum singles.<\/p>\n

Beyond music, McLemore served in the U.S. Navy as an aerial photographer, worked as a photographer for Jet<\/em> magazine, and even pursued professional baseball. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mieko, his children, sister, and three grandchildren.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
