A 12-year-old girl remains in critical condition after the deadly mass shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School<\/span><\/span><\/strong> in British Columbia, Canada, on February 10. The attack \u2014 the fourth deadliest in the country\u2019s history \u2014 left nine people dead and 27 injured.<\/p>\n

Maya, a student at the school, was airlifted to Vancouver Children’s Hospital<\/span><\/span><\/strong> with life-threatening gunshot wounds to the head and neck. Her mother, Cia Edmonds, shared on Facebook that her daughter remains in critical care and is \u201cfighting for her life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the severity of her injuries, Maya survived emergency brain surgery to address bleeding, though doctors are still monitoring her condition and assessing the damage.<\/p>\n

Authorities have identified 18-year-old Jesse van Rootselaar as the suspect. Reports state he allegedly killed his mother and stepbrother before going to the school, where he later died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.<\/p>\n
