Chris Swecker, former FBI assistant director, told Fox News that the lack of verified proof of life is suspicious, noting that legitimate kidnappings usually include straightforward evidence that the victim is alive.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have to allow for the possibility that this was something more or something other than a kidnapping,\u201d Swecker said, adding no evidence has been credibly authenticated.<\/p>\n
The family has posted emotional pleas on social media and reportedly agreed to ransom demands that jumped from $1 million to $6 million\u2014a rise Swecker called suspicious. He suggested opportunists could be exploiting the high-profile case.<\/p>\n
At least two alleged ransom messages have surfaced, with deadlines\u2014one already passed\u2014though authorities have not confirmed their authenticity.<\/p>\n
Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her Tucson home overnight between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 2026. She was last seen after returning from dinner with her daughter Annie. Investigators found her blood in the home and a missing doorbell camera, raising fears of abduction.<\/p>\n
