Parker Sutherland<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, an 18-year-old freshman tight end at the University of Northern Iowa<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, died on February 14 after collapsing during a team workout two days earlier. He was hospitalized but passed away shortly after. An official cause of death has not been released.<\/p>\n

Athletic director Megan Franklin<\/span><\/span><\/strong> called it a \u201cheartbreaking day\u201d for Panther Athletics, while head coach Todd Stepsis<\/span><\/span><\/strong> said he was \u201cheartbroken\u201d and offered condolences to Sutherland\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

A native of Iowa City, Sutherland played in four games during his freshman season and had previously earned all-state honors in high school. He is survived by his parents and sister.<\/p>\n

The Panthers honored him during their Saturday night game as the community mourns his loss.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
