His family confirmed he passed away on Thursday, February 19, following a courageous battle with the disease, surrounded by his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"371\" data-end=\"708\">Dane rose to fame as Dr. Mark Sloan (\u201cMcSteamy\u201d) on <em data-start=\"423\" data-end=\"439\">Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em>, becoming a fan favorite after joining the show in 2006. He later gained new audiences through <em data-start=\"535\" data-end=\"545\">Euphoria<\/em>. After revealing his ALS diagnosis last year, he became an advocate for awareness and research, openly sharing his early symptoms and calling the disease \u201cnasty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"710\" data-end=\"876\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Born in San Francisco in 1972, Dane moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and built a successful television and film career.
