Liberty Armstrong, a 40-year-old accountant from San Jose, left her eight-year-old daughter Amelia with her parents during an urgent work meeting. When Liberty returned early, she found Amelia alone in a drained pool under the scorching sun, forced to scrub it with harsh chemicals as punishment for arguing with her cousins over a toy. Her grandparents had left her there while taking the other children out.<\/p>\n

Amelia collapsed from heatstroke and chemical burns and was rushed to the hospital with a dangerously high temperature. Security footage confirmed the grandparents deliberately left her alone with toxic chemicals. Liberty reported them to police and CPS.<\/p>\n

In court, footage and medical testimony proved severe neglect and child endangerment. The judge sentenced Liberty\u2019s parents to three years in prison, ordered them to repay the $15,750 she had loaned, and mandated no contact with Amelia.<\/p>\n

Two years later, Amelia has healed and is thriving. Liberty has cut ties with her parents, choosing her daughter\u2019s safety over family loyalty.
