Legendary actor Robert Duvall<\/span><\/span>, known for iconic roles in The Godfather<\/span><\/span>, Apocalypse Now<\/span><\/span>, and Tender Mercies<\/span><\/span>, has died peacefully at his home in Middleburg, Virginia, at age 95.<\/p>\n

Born on January 5, 1931, in San Diego, California, Duvall was the son of a naval officer. He studied at Principia College, served in the Korean War, and later trained under famed acting coach Sanford Meisner<\/span><\/span> in New York, where he shared an apartment with Dustin Hoffman<\/span><\/span> and befriended Gene Hackman<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Duvall began in theater before making his film debut as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird<\/span><\/span>. He gained worldwide acclaim as Tom Hagen in The Godfather, earning an Oscar nomination. He received further nominations for his roles in Apocalypse Now<\/span><\/span> and The Great Santini<\/span><\/span>, and won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Tender Mercies. Over his career, he earned multiple Oscar nominations and remained active into his 90s, with his final film being The Pale Blue Eye<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Following his death on February 15, his wife, Luciana Pedraza<\/span><\/span>, shared a heartfelt statement, calling him her \u201cbeloved husband\u201d and \u201cone of the greatest actors of our time,\u201d and thanked fans for their support and privacy.<\/p>\n
