His longtime manager <strong data-start=\"219\" data-end=\"260\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Meryl Soodak<\/span><\/span><\/strong> confirmed his passing to <strong data-start=\"286\" data-end=\"327\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">ABC 7 Eyewitness News<\/span><\/span><\/strong> on Aug. 15.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"341\" data-end=\"687\">Rogers joined <em data-start=\"355\" data-end=\"373\">General Hospital<\/em> in 1980 and quickly became a fan favorite as the charming spy Robert Scorpio, a role he returned to for decades. In July, it was revealed he had been diagnosed with lung cancer despite never being a smoker. According to Soodak, playing Scorpio \u201cmeant everything\u201d to him and became the defining role of his career.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"1198\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Born June 3, 1946, in <strong data-start=\"711\" data-end=\"752\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Melbourne<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, Rogers began acting in Australia before moving to the United States in the late 1970s.
