Dean Cain sacrificed his career to raise his son alone – vowing to not be like his own dad who abandoned him

Having a supportive father can make a huge difference in a child’s life. Actor Dean Cain made sure to always be there for his son—even if it meant stepping back from his successful career.

Best known for his role in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Cain originally dreamed of becoming a football player, but a knee injury pushed him toward acting.

Born Dean George Tanaka in Michigan, he was raised by his mother and her second husband, director Christopher Cain, who adopted him. Cain later honored his adoptive father by naming his own son Christopher.

His son, born in 2000 to model Samantha Torres, became the center of his life. After a long custody battle, Cain was granted sole custody in 2011 and chose to focus on raising him.

He cooked his son’s meals, attended his football games and jujitsu tournaments, and often turned down acting roles to be present. Cain later said being a father always came first.

Only after his son graduated high school did he begin taking on major roles again. Today, the two share a close bond, often traveling together and spending time as a family.
