Georgia Math Teacher Killed In Prank Gone Wrong Outside Home; 5 Teens Charged

A Georgia high school teacher, Jason Hughes, 40, was killed after a late-night prank outside his Gainesville home turned deadly. Teens had been toilet-papering his property when Hughes went outside around 11:40 p.m. Thursday. While approaching their vehicles, he tripped and was run over by 18-year-old Jayden Wallace’s pickup.

Hughes was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he died Friday. Wallace faces charges including first-degree vehicular homicide, reckless driving, criminal trespass, and littering. Four other teens were charged with misdemeanor trespass and littering.

Hughes, also a golf coach, is remembered for his dedication to students and family. He is survived by his wife, Laura, a fellow math teacher, and their two children. A GoFundMe for the family has raised over $62,000 to cover expenses and a future college fund.
